Baby videoconferencing
If the constant barrage of photos and videos isn’t enough to keep up with Esme, there’s one other option — videoconferencing! For all those distant relatives and friends, we’ve found that video chat works surprisingly well for getting your virtual fill.
If you’re interested, let us know, and we can set up a time to chat. We’ve been using Skype because it’s free and easy and seems to work pretty well. So here’s what you need to do:
- Install Skype. You’ll need to set up a username and password — make sure to remember them!
- Make sure you have a microphone and speakers.
- If you’re using a laptop, you should be all set. If you have a desktop, you likely have speakers and not a microphone.
- You don’t need anything fancy for your microphone — something like this one (for less than $3)
should do the trick. You should be able to find something simple like this at Target, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, etc.
- Test out your audio to make sure it’s working — Skype has a “test call” you can try to check.
That’s it! Send us an email or give us a call and we can set up a time to Skype.
We have a webcam, so you’ll be able to see us, even though we won’t be able to see you. That’s probably fine, since most people seem interested in doing this so they can see Esme “live,” and she’s not at the stage where she can really see or distinguish anything at this point.
In order for us to see you, you’ll need to have a webcam. You can get something simple like thisLogitech Quickcam Communicate STX if you’d like — most webcams have a microphone built in as well.
If you have any questions, let us know — and looking forward to “seeing” many of you soon!
